Safety First Shooting Association Range Rules

General

Live fire conducted at the River Oaks Range is designed to provide authorized personnel access to a facility where they can become proficient with firearms. The Safety First Shooting Association and its guests are "guests" of the Bettencourt Family Properties and must remain within the boundaries of the River Oaks Shooting Range and or its authorized parking areas at all times. The remainder of the Bettencourt Family Properties are not open to the Public.

Authorized Personnel
The following persons are allowed to use the range facility

Current members of the Safety First Shooting Association, who have completed an orientation by the Range Manager (RM), a Chief Range Safety Officer (CRSO), or a Range Safety Officer (RSO) and have a valid Safety First Shooting Association membership card.

Invited guests of the above, provided the authorized person is present and assumes full responsibility for the conduct of his or her guest(s).

Each orientated member may have no more than two (2) guests, (adults or minors) on the firing line. This is considered the maximum for safe supervision.

Family members: SFSA has no provisions for “Family memberships” at this time. Memberships are individual and specific. Do not give out your PIN code or Proximity Access Card to any family members or friends. Family members may attend and use the range in accompaniment with the authorized member as guests, however only two family guests may be on the firing line at any time. Two guests are considered the maximum for attention by any member. If you have more than two family guests, they can observe from the grass, and take turns shooting, with only two guests on the firing line. Minor Children must be supervised by a parent or guardian, or other responsible adult while on the range.

Friends or other guests: Non Family guests (ie: Friends or co-workers), are limited to only one (1) individual visit per calendar month as a guest a specific member. Non Family guests are limited to use Bay 1 only. Minor Children must be supervised by a parent or guardian, or other responsible adult while on the range.

Procedures for more than two guests or a for a group:  If you have more than two family guests, such as a family gathering, and you want to use the range, contact the Range Staff and we will assist you to have everyone participate at the same time. If you have more than one (1) Non-Family Guest and want to arrange a range group activity, contact the Education Committee to set up an organized event for your party.

Range Safety Officers, Instructors, and Coach’s:  SFSA Board appointed Range Safety Officers (RSO) and SFSA authorized Firearms Instructors and Coach’s may bring any number of family or other guests at any one time, and use any of the Shooting Bays. However, only two (02) shooters may be on the firing line at any one time as guests. Authorized instructors or coach’s conducting a formal class are encouraged to maintain the recommended student/instructor ratios.

Ear and Eye protection may be required of guests observing firearm activities from the grassy areas. Be especially watchful of children as they commonly take off their protection.

Facilities For Use

Range availability is at the discretion of the Range Manager (RM). Live fire is normally limited to the following equipment: Rifles, shotguns, pistols, revolvers and black powder of any caliber or gauge for paper targets. Semi-automatic pistols up to .45 ACP, Revolvers up to .38 caliber and shotguns of any gauge may be used on steel targets. NO RIFLES FIRING SMOKELESS POWDER CARTRIDGES OF ANY CALIBER MAY BE USED ON THE STEEL TARGETS.

Range Limitation and Safety Equipment
Live fire shooters will

· Verify range is open to unsupervised shooting before going to the range.

· The range may have a closed sign prominently posted on no-shoot days.

· Sign in and out on the range log and ensure that all shooters and spectators sign a hold harmless agreement.

· Ensure range flags are displayed.

· Ensure all shooters and spectators wear appropriate eye and ear protection.

· Ensure persons on the range will conduct themselves in an orderly manner at all times and will be responsible for their firearms, ammunition and any other gear while on  the range.

· Use paper targets, cardboard or approved steel targets. Glass and plastic bottles cans and any other objects for use as targets is prohibited.

· NOT LOAD firearms until upon the firing line and until weapon is pointed down range and it is safe to do so.

· Fire only authorized firearms.

· Ensure all projectiles impact within the confines of the established range safety limits.

· Call "Cease Firing” and make safe all firearms before a shooter moves forward of the firing line or during any unsafe condition.

· When a "Cease Firing" is called all shooters must stop firing immediately.

· All firearms must be unloaded, actions open and benched or holstered before anybody may go forward of the firing line.

· All shooters must back away from the firing line while anyone is forward of the firing line or during an unsafe condition.

· Not leave the firing line with a loaded weapon.

· Notify the RSO, CRSO or RM of any safety infractions.

· Police all brass, paper, and other debris that accumulate on the range and dispose of them in the proper containers.

· Return all targets and supplies to proper storage area.

Alcoholic Beverages and Drugs

Alcoholic Beverages and Drugs. Shooters may not consume alcoholic beverages or drugs, (including prescription drugs and over the counter medications), before or during live firing. The RM, CRSO or RSO will deny range access to anyone in violation.

Food or Drink

Shooters may not eat or drink while on the firing line or while shooting.

Smoking

There shall be no smoking at the River Oaks shooting range at any time.

Medical Support

In the event of a medical emergency, call 911 and notify the RM, CRSO or RSO immediately.
